The BetaPlus Club

  • The BetaPlus Club exists for the benefit of all who wish to enjoy, share and improve their computer skills. It welcomes men and women with different levels of expertise, ranging from experts to those with limited experience. The aim of the club is to help its members develop their existing computer skills and extend them into new areas. Members need a computer and an e-mail link in order to participate in the club activities.

  • The BetaPlus Club was established in 2002 and has around 80 members, one third of whom are women. The club’s main activities are centred in West Sussex around the village halls at West Stoke and West Ashling and take place during the day on weekdays. We take a break from regular activities during the main school holiday periods.

  • The club holds fortnightly meetings on Tuesday mornings with talks on computer related subjects given by outside speakers and club members. Some meetings take the form of outside visits to organisations of interest to club members. In addition, project groups and study groups of up to 10 members meet informally to explore shared computer interests. Some groups consist of experienced members exploring advanced computer techniques, while others comprise members with different skill levels learning about particular computer applications. Whatever the topic, the aim of every group is to share knowledge and learn together.

  • The club is well equipped with laptop computers and data projectors for use in its meetings and study groups. It also has a sound system to support presentations given at its meetings.

  • All members are expected to contribute to the running of the club in some way - by contributing to a presentation, inviting an appropriate speaker or taking a turn at serving mid-meeting coffee and biscuits, and washing up afterwards!

  • Club members are able to access the password protected members’ area of this website. This contains useful resources such as copies of past presentations, guidance notes published by the study groups, details of the programme of activities and a copy of the club’s constitution.

  • All club members are entitled to vote and to stand for election as officers or members of the management committee at the AGM, usually held in June each year.
